Obituary for Beverly J. "Bev" Carlton (Olsen)

Beverly J. "Bev" Carlton (Olsen)
Beverly Olsen was born in Medford, Oregon to Mal and Eileen Olsen. She was raised with her five
siblings on Arnold Lane and spent her days caring for any animal she could tame. Bev was an All-American
girl; she wasn’t afraid of a little dirt, knew how to handle a motorcycle, would cause a little trouble
now and again, and also loved a fancy dress and a great pair of heels.
After attending Saint Mary’s grade school, Bev graduated from Medford Senior High in 1975 where, at
just 15 years old,she met the love of her life, Mark Carlton. On August 5, 1978 they were married and
built the only home they ever lived in. In 1979, Bev gave birth to their first child, Mark. In 1981, Mark
and Bev welcomed Tyler, and in 1986, Mallory was born and completed their family. Bev worked hard
to create a home and life she was proud of. She never knew how many kids would be around the dinner
table each night, but she always made sure her children’s friends felt welcome to join, as long as they
took off their hat and joined in prayer. Each summer she enjoyed going to Trinity Lake for the annual
houseboat trip with friends and family. This trip was always a priority to her and Mark, and created lasting
memories and lifelong friendships. Bev was involved in the kids’ activities; whether it was 4-H,
sports, or booster clubs, she was always there and never missed a game. She encouraged her kids to follow
their dreams and work hard to achieve them, and also made sure they knew how to let loose and
have fun. Bev and Mark made sure Mark, Tyler, and Mallory had a childhood filled with camping, fishing,
snowmobiling, hiking, and good friends.
In September of 1998 she and Mark lost part of their world when Tyler was taken to Heaven in an auto
accident. We take great comfort knowing they’re reunited now.
Bev worked at and co-owned Black Bird Jewelry with her brother, Kevin, until she retired in 2005. In
her retirement she enjoyed traveling the beautiful beaches of the world with friends, soaking up the sun,
and living life at a little slower pace. Bev took great pride in welcoming her six grandkids and helping
teach and care for them. She was always available if she was needed, and was a great joy to all of her children
and grandchildren.
Bev passed away in the presence of loved ones in the comfort of her home. She will be remembered,
with tears and laughter, and her presence will be missed tremendously.
Bev is survived by her husband, Mark; two of her children, Mark (Kari), and Mallory (Tanner); five
grandsons, Wyatt (14), Colt (13), Ryder (11), Mark (9), and Tyler (4); and her granddaughter, Sadie Mae
(18 months).
A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, December 2, 2017 at Cornerstone Christian Church,
608 N. Bartlett St., Medford.
In lieu of flowers, please consider sending a contribution to the Tyler Carlton Memorial Scholarship at
South Medford High School,. 1551 Cunningham Avenue, Medford, OR 97501.
